People often ask me "Capt Ron how can I save on my energy costs like you do?" Sometimes I tell them if I like them and sometimes not or I make something up and send them on a wild goose chase. I realize now this is wrong. So to be fair I have started this new page on how you can tap into alternative energy sources and save large amounts of money on your electric and fuel bills. As the cost of energy goes up we need to adapt otherwise we will spending more and more of our work day working for the energy companies and less working for ourselves and our families. So simply by changing our behavior and working smarter not harder we can solve a lot of problems. Sometimes if we don't change our behavior we suffer the pain. Its amazing what you can build with a few spare hours on a weekend possibly with the aid of a friend the BBQ and a six pack.
WIND
Wind is a source of energy. Wind generates force. In order to use that force we need to convert wind power into mechanical or electrical power. We can do that in the form of a wind generator. They aren't too difficult to build and in fact an average person would have no problems at all. Now wind power may not be for everyone as you may live in an apartment or an area where you cannot get access to the wind. But most of us do have access to wind. We searched around for some good plans for wind generators and instructions on how to build them. This is amazing because at that cost you can quickly save that amount in electricity that you would normally need to buy from the power company.

GASOLINE ALTERNATIVE CONVERT YOUR CAR TO ELECTRIC!!
The price of gas is in a word ridiculous. That means that you spend more and more of your work day working for big oil not yourself. Have you ever considered converting a gasoline powered car to electric? Don't let the new car dealer tell you it can't be done. It can be done and what is more to the point at the price of gas these days it can be done cost effectively. Imagine plugging your car in overnight and never going to a gas station ever again. RUN YOUR CAR ON A WATER GAS MIX!!!
This is something that you might find sounds a bit odd. It is possible to run your car on a water gas mix. You do NOT put water in your gas tank -that would be a very bad idea. But for less than two tanks of gas- about $150 you can build a system to allow you to run on a water-gas mix and save a ton of money on your gas bills. The oil company does not want you to know this. It is almost unbelievable but if you wear a sweater in the cold months inside your home you can turn your thermostat down several degrees AND save several hundred dollars a year. It seems silly but some people will demand to go around their house in summer clothes even when it is twenty below outside and the poor old furnace is sucking back the oil or gas or electric just to maintain that toasty warm interior. Its no big deal and the savings don't require any fancy equipment. In my Northern Ontario home I saved nearly $1000 in furnace oil by simply wearing a sweater and a pair of wool socks during the winter months. The sweater cost $22 and the socks were about $3. I would like to tell you it is more complicated than that and you need to buy something to implement the idea but frankly all you need to do is wear a sweater. You will also fine that your mind is sharper when you turn down the thermostat a few degrees and not only that you tend to loose a few pounds over the winter as your body burns more energy to maintain its temperature. Could anything be simpler than that? With that extra $1000 you can buy yourself lots of nice things just think of them now! Nice eh!
TURN OFF THE LIGHTS Get into the habit of turning off the lights when you are not in the room. Get your kids to do it too. Once the habit is established you don' t even need to think about it and you end up saving a few hundred a year on needless power waste. Cost -nothing. Benefit -priceless!
