CHASING THE DOLLAR

Now here is an interesting topic and we all do it to some degree. We do things to earn money. Its called by various names; employment, greed, the rat race, earning a dollar, getting ahead, financial success or whatever. "Everybody sells something" as they say. The idea is the same -we act in a certain way to earn money. It's the way our society works. However, a considerable amount of bullshit has worked its way into the process. 

One logical problem is that all humans eventually die and once dead you cannot take the money with you. The average human lives no longer than about 30,000 days! How on earth can a human with a rather short and finite lifespan in the overall scheme of things hope to own a piece of the planet which has been here for millions of years and threatens to be around for millions more if we don't screw it up? Can a fish own the lake, a deer own the forest? A tree own the park? NO! But man thinks he can own a part of the earth. And we expend great efforts to pay for it too. Odd isn't it? Could this just possibly be a mistake in logic? Or is it all part of a master plan to relieve the masses of the fruits of their labour and retain true wealth for the rich classes? And just what might that true wealth be then? (boy is this ever getting good!)

Another problem is that the entire point of saving money is sometimes lost when you run out of time or allotted health to actually enjoy the money. People will work horrendous hours at the expense of family and friends just to make more and more money. Its a slippery slope. Buy a modest house and you have modest expenses. Buy an executive house and you have huge expenses. And yet in both houses there are activities which are almost identical -those of sleeping several hours a day oblivious to your surroundings and those associated with normal human abolitions in the washroom. So the upscale finishing cost you dearly.  And suddenly all you are doing is working to pay the bills. In a recent CEO trial it was revealed the rascal paid $6000 of company funds for a shower curtain. I paid 12 bucks for mine and you know- each one keeps the water from hitting the bathroom floor! (Mine has duckies on it-his did not-he is jail right now -I am not)  

Money becomes a type of addiction. With money comes power and power too becomes another addiction. Powerful people feel they are somehow more important than less wealthy people. And yet, at the end of our life span - we all end up in the same boat (the SS Dead Duckie). 

Some societies understand the basics like you cannot "own" things you simply are the custodian. Our real-estate system ignores this fact and huge sums of money are exchanged to obtain what is called property ownership. But how can you own the earth or even a part of the earth? Miss two or three tax payments and see what you own. Or wait for the next earth quake or flash flood or fire and take a look at your "holdings." 

Studies have been done to determine the motivating power of money. On a graph it reaches a maximum and then...surprisingly ... falls sharply away. At some point people will refuse to work extra overtime or days off or at a certain level of production they will no longer make more widgets. In short there are limits to the motivating power of the almighty dollar. 

What does it all mean?  I'm not sure but I think its something like this. Life is the most important thing that we have. We owe it to ourselves to enjoy what time we have. During that time it will be necessary to "earn an income". But in order to enjoy life its also necessary to build, have friends, raise a family, get some exercise, stay fit, avoid unnecessary danger, to learn, to marvel at life, visit other places and to help others. And a bunch of other things too! And in times like this when so many people have lost the better part of their life savings one needs to step back and consider the situation. 

But chasing money -continually chasing it to the point where we ignore most other things is simply....bullshit! Not chasing it at all is usually referred to as laziness so someplace in there is a happy medium!

With the advent of the internet there is one alternative to chasing money yourself and that is to have "your people" chase it for you. In other words you have an internet site that automatically collects money for you while you do other more important things like have fun and sleep and play hide the salami and whatever else you feel like.
