If you found a way to earn money respect and support from people by supporting a cause that would save the planet and have nobody to argue against you -would you do it? You most certainly would! Welcome to the first great lie of this century -Global warming. Because some people are lying about it to earn a living and others are not because it is really happening and they want to save the planet from certain disaster.
Here is the premise:
Human activity, specifically the release of green house gases such as carbon dioxide is affecting the earth's atmosphere and causing the destruction of the ozone layer and the accumulation of these gases in the atmosphere which in turn is causing global warming. The warmer temperatures are causing the ice caps and glaciers to melt resulting in higher water levels and the destruction of coastal communities. The survival of life on our planet is being threatened. But we can save the planet by producing less greenhouse gas and by cutting consumption and growing more trees. This is called "going green"
Its wonderful really. The media has everyone absolutely convinced that if they park the SUV and stop using plastic bags that they can save the planet from certain destruction. Anyone that disagrees is considered to be an evil person out to destroy life as we know and love it. An army of people called "environmentalists" have mobilized to change school curriculums, modify business and government practices and become politically involved to save the planet. Cities have invested billions in "recycling programs" and billions more have been invested in hybrid cars. Victoria BC has legislated that all taxis in town SHALL be hybrids and they have purchased solar powered garbage cans at approximately $7,000 each! I bought a new garbage can this year it cost me $15.95.
Well meaning humans have actually devoted their lives to saving the planet. They have made it their careers and earn a living from it. Billions of taxpayers dollars have been re-directed into various carbon reducing plans and schemes. You can earn a living working for Greenpeace, the Sierra Club and Friends of the Earth. There are also great "environmentalist" jobs in government, corporations, business and the non-profits. Folks will gladly take your money and plant a tree for you ( well after expenses) or whatever to offset that hideous carbon footprint of yours. In fact they will even calculate your carbon footprint to make you feel guilty about it and give them money. Global warming is a huge growth business with a payroll in the billions and you are paying for it.
The complication
Oh that life was simple. The environmentalists have glommed onto some good ideas like recycling and reusing things and avoiding pollution. Nothing wrong with that and my aligning themselves with perfectly reasonable ideas they have made themselves much smaller targets. Very clever. Its pretty stupid to pollute the same groundwater that you drink. Its incredibly stupid to put scrap aluminum into a land fill. You would need to be dumb as a post to want carcinogens to concentrate in your body fat. And this plastic bag business is pretty stupid too. Yes it does make much more sense to reuse a tougher built bag almost indefinitely rather than to consume ten bags every shopping. But what makes an environmentalist think that they own these ideas most of which were around before them just due to economics and common sense?
The Problem.
There is this pesky little problem. Reality. Reality has a cold wet snout and it is what is sticking into this vast movement towards solving the global warming problem.

I could go on because there are a long list of like pages but these will get you thinking or at least considering that there are other possibilities in this global warming thingee.
What happens when you don't think it all out. Environmentalists screeched loud and long to add alcohol to gasoline to make it more environmentally friendly. You see they explained we can get the alcohol from a renewable resource -corn! So the government wanting to keep them happy quickly legislated that a certain percentage of gasoline had to have ethanol in it and that a percentage of cars had to be able to use up to 15% ethanol in their fuel tanks. It seemed like a wonderful idea. Save the planet eh!
The only thing was they they didn't think it all out. The farmers grew corn for ethanol taking it away from animal feed and human feed. That pushed the price of food up. Now a bigger percentage of the worlds population is facing starvation because they can't afford food. Go figure. Because the food is being turned into ethanol and then put in the tanks of our SUV's where our environmentally sensitive types drive in complete bliss knowing that they are saving the planet. What they are forgetting about is that they are taking the food out of the poorest people's mouths and they are starving to death.
And then there is the blue box re-cycle program. Has anyone ever done the math there too? All that fresh water used to rinse out cans and bottles so that they can go into the recycle box. All that fuel used to collect the damn things. Those millions of labor hours needed to sort and collect the stuff. I hope somebody has done the math and that it still makes sense. But I have my doubts. Even the blue boxes themselves are a petroleum product and there are millions of them. Has anyone done the math there?
The latest problem is the compact florescent light bulb which the environmentalist morons with great fanfare pushed onto society. Now we are finding out that despite millions of installations the bulbs were never tested for UV emissions and apparently they should not be used close to skin or children and they have mercury in them making them a disposal problem AND because they emit little heat they require that users spend more on fossil fuels to make up the heat lost. I find this so frustrating when one albeit well meaning group goofs up so much and has an opposite effect to what their stated objective is. This is another example of really bad science. And it is also an example of really stupid politicians desperate for votes who will spend the public tax dollars on schemes to get them votes not to actually improve the human condition. It becomes the politically correct thing to do despite the annoying fact that it doesn't work. Oh and most of the new light bulbs are made in...China!
And now another problem. It seems that the reusable bags that enviro conscious Canadians use are contaminated with all sorts of mold, bacteria and other grunge and are actually a health hazard that will make you and your family sick. Not only did these will meaning idiots kill an existing plastics industry they then set up fellow citizens for increased sickness and possibly even death.
Global warming has become a very popular marketing term. But a recent study discovered a full 75% of products claiming to be "green" and environmentally friendly were not. How stupid is that!
Conclusion
You may be surprised by this conclusion but I think there is a lot of Bullshit regarding global warming. But I also think pollution caused global warming is in fact occurring. Sure lets listen to the folks but lets keep the brain turned on too. Because this is costing more of your tax dollars every year and the movement is growing. The term "environmentalist" is not the same as "scientist" In fact an environmentalist may not even have grade ten chemistry. He is not necessarily an "expert" on the environment. She may be a complete loonie. As mentioned they have also latched on to some perfectly good existing ideas regarding pollution, recycling and re-using things so they are harder to pin down. Buyer beware!
Canadians have many champions for the Environment and Prof. David Suzuki is one of the leaders here. The man is very impressive and is on a mission to save the planet. He has a bit of an ego but why not he has done a lot of things and as an activist you need to push people to change their opinions. Check out his website at the David Suzuki Foundation. I originally found him a bit abrasive but after a while it sunk in what he was up to and then it all made a lot more sense. He IS trying to save the planet and to do so he needs to change a lot of minds. Dr. Suzuki is an exceptional human and Canadian with a Phd. in Zoology and 22 honorary degrees from Universities around the planet. My suggestion would be to check out his website prior to making up your mind about global warming. As I point out here there is a lot of bullshit floating around these days on this topic but at the base of it is the reality that our Planet is going to hell in a hand basket and its well past the time that we woke up and did something about it. Can you imagine how much more progress we could make in the field if we made Dr. Suzuki the Minister of the Environment. And why not!
The upside to global warming...new beaches on James Bay in Northern Canada
Now one thing that makes a lot of sense are small electric vehicles. Imagine not paying hundreds of dollars for gasoline every month or two. Imagine a zero emissions vehicle with great advertising value too. Imagine a low maintenance vehicle that makes no noise and is fun to drive and easy to park and is CHEAPER than the smoke belching hulks the car makers are trying to sell us today.
