A good example of Bullshit is the way our American cousins and to a lesser extent us, treat their celebrities. The obvious thing about Miss Hilton is that she is tall, slim, blond and rich. And she does have talent. But how does she pass closer inspection? Is there a reason for all the media attention she gets? I wouldn't call her gorgeous. She is OK. Certainly much better than average for sure! She hasn't done anything for society. Paris is no academic. She isn't a sport's hero. She isn't much of a role model for our youngsters. She isn't a great orator. Why is she so famous? She constantly poses for pictures. She is basically a celebrity. She is certainly not average or a loser or ugly but at the same time why so much press?? What is it about her that drives the media crazy and causes readers and viewers to almost immediately view anything about her? Paris kind of owns the media in her area whatever that is. Pop Culture I guess. And she works hard at it too! In reality if you smear Vaseline on your camera lens Paris looks like any young, tall, slim woman in a black dress. Sort of.
My theory is that the American public identifies with Paris. They like the idea of being rich, slim, tall and blond and the fact she seems to go to a lot of parties- so Paris is pushing all their hot buttons. But it's all bullshit. Because the average American or Canadian for that matter is not tall, slim, blond or rich. I guess the average one is of medium height, a brunette, overweight, doesn't get out much, works like a beaver to pay all the bills and is maxed out on their credit cards. So Paris is like a dream come true. So to speak. Her favourite phrase was "That's Hot".
Paris is sort of a figurehead. She is probably a nice enough person and probably would be fun to be with at a social occasion. She is the only person I know that actually gets paid to attend parties. If she came up to Canada wearing a toque and a ski jacket and a pair of snow boots (and it was winter) she would probably fit in rather well. But I just can't see Canadians going apeshit over her like they do down in the USA. Not that we wouldn't be very attentive. She would probably be very happy in a corner of one of our pubs with a bottle of Canadian (beer) and a bowl of peanuts. And the people in the corner would be quite happy too!
Now I like Paris Hilton. I enjoyed watching the "Simple Life". I like the way she understands Branding something we cover in our book YOUR VERY FIRST BILLION and I think she is an excellent business person. Paris seems to understand that having fun is an important part of life and she is an excellent promoter! I find it amusing how some people "hate or can't stand her" as usually its a reflection of pure envy. Others mistakenly say that "Paris is stupid" which of course is just plain silly besides being inaccurate and rude. I hope Paris has a happy and prosperous life and thank her for all the entertainment she has provided us much more average people.
And there is a rumour that Paris is really a Canadian. This is not true as Miss Hilton was born in New York City. Paris can play hockey though and that is what really impresses me!

I think the basic premise here is that both young women are attractive and spoiled and acting out a lot of people's dreams. They just want to have fun and what is wrong with that!
