SNOW BLOWER MANIA

 There are few things more attractive  than a Canadian winter with fluffy white snowflakes floating down from the sky coating all in a soft winter blanket of pristine white. Suddenly someone fires up a hydrocarbon belching, oil dripping, noise shattering, snow blower! Why? Because they have twenty or thirty feet of driveway to clear! Now they could do the same silently and very efficiently with little effort if they used a snow plow type of shovel with two vertical handles. You no longer have to lift the snow causing over exertion and disc compression and heart attacks you merely slide the snow around with this "new" design of shovel. 

    Snow blowers are not only expensive costing $1000 and more they are noisy, the pollution from them smells and the vibration from handles can cause numbness -to your hands but I suspect in some it climbs up the brain stem into the medulla oblongata and even the frontal lobes. And toss in $60 for the GST some more for the provincial sales tax and $10 for a gas can and funnel and $15 for a small can full of gas etc. 

    Here we are in the land of global warming and sensible conservation and looking for healthy exercise and what do we do? We go an buy a snow blower made in China or Korea from a factory belching out hydrocarbons and pollution made by folks who work for about a dollar an hour while our unemployed citizens wonder how to pay the rent and food bills. Well they could be shoveling snow in the winter but YOU saw to it that won't happen!

Not to put too fine a point on it ,every time one of you snowblowing maniacs fires up your machines you dump about 1200g of carbon monoxide and 2 kg of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere along with that annoying noise. Given that over 20% of Canadian households now owns a snow blower even the most dimwitted can understand this is not helping global warming or the environment. And there I am, using a hand shovel and getting some exercise trying to do my bit to save the planet. We "shovel people" should make up some snowballs and plaster the "snowblower people" next snowfall! 

    Given the name of this website and its mission in life you may or may not be surprised that I am going to say that this snow blower foolishness is a load of bullshit! By the time you pay for the gas, oil, annual servicing, repairs and parts you could have hired the neighborhood kid or the family man trying to make a few bucks for his family with his pick up truck and plow. But oh no you bought the snow blower. And you are likely paying 25% interest on the charge card you used to buy it. Dumkoff! And you silly dufus you probably bought a bigger one than you needed just to show off to the neighbor. What do you do when you live in a shoe!

    Oh you won't find these opinions in the media you trust to provide you with the truth. The reason is simple enough. The people who sell snow blowers pay millions of dollars a year in advertising to the media to establish demand and make you think you really can't live without one! Spilling the beans would be like murdering the golden goose. To use a fowl metaphor. Well folks the goose has just been run over with my 1988 Dodge Minivan. Spat! We eat tonight! And I shall work it off plowing my driveway with my $25 snow shovel. 

    Oh show this to a friend with or who is considering buying a snow blower. They will thank you for it! Please don't show it to a poor guy trying to sell them or somebody that just imported a container load from Peking. They may not see the humor in it.

A person kindly used a snowblower on my driveway. It was very nice of him and darned if that ozone sucking carbon spewing noisy monster didn't do quite the nice job on my driveway.  Fair is fair. I admit that the odd snow blower use is sort of ok especially when that darn snow is the heavy wet stuff eh! It looked like fun too! Still I will keep my trusty snow scooper as the main weapon against the dreaded snowflake.
